We to Hollywood and saw an Apostle of The Lord

Image
So many things have happened this past week! One of the most spiritual weeks as well! Elder Causse, who is an Apostle of The Lord, came to the mission to instruct us. He referenced the Tree of Life in 1st Nephi a lot and we talked about the fruit of the tree and how we are trying to get everyone we can to also partake of the fruit. Our friend Dan came with us to the Tabernacle Choir concert (Donny Osmond was there to perform). It was at the Hollywood Bowl which is an hour and a half out of the mission and our mission had to get apostleship approval for us to get back late (we didn't get home till midnight). We also had permission to sleep in till 8 from our mission President which is crazy! Also our Mission President and his wife finished there mission so we said goodbye to them. It was really sad and I'm so very grateful for President and Sister Rodriquez. So many things happened this week and I wish I had more time to write but i love you all! also i am in my last trans...

Here we are

Welcome back to an awesome email!! This week we had some awesome miracles!! Things that happened this week... -Had transfers and I am still in Newbury Park but now I am with Elder Bath. -Our friend William accepted a baptismal date for July 19th -Met Mickey Rooney's son (he's an old actor and he played one of the security guards in Night at the Museum. -On friday we stopped by this previously taught record and we met this guy who was blind with long hair around 30 years old. Turns out he was being taught by the Spanish missionaries. Through talking with him we learned that he didn't want to come to church because he was insecure with the way he looked. We made a deal that if we came by tomorrow and I gave him a haircut he would come to church. He accepted. After we made the deal we called the Spanish missionaries and they said they had said the same thing to him. The next day we went by and I cut his hair. It was a great hair cut! After, his mom asked how much did we c...

The earth is flat?

Hi everyone! I went to the temple to so our Preparation Day was moved to today. Some highlights from the week: Met a lot of people who are gonna be baptized some day A man tried to convince us of flat earth and how the government is lying to us and there is an ice wall all around us that stops us from getting to Agartha and we know this because the horizon is always at eye level. cool stuff. Met some excommunicated members. Had an awesome lesson and now our friend is going to keep the Word of Wisdom. An evangelizing pentecostal wanted to bash us so we gave him 10 minutes of our time and kept it peaceful. Gave us the churches business card. Had a lesson with this sweet old British woman. ' Did some service for someone who was only slightly crazy. We were helping them moved and i think we helped pack like 4.5 boxes in like an hour and a half. Met a retired scuba diving fire and rescue man. Met a long lost cousin...? Gave a couple of hair cuts... highs and lows all week ...

NEW STUFF

So I have been transferred to Conejo Canyon in the Zone of Newbury Park. I have been in this area before on exchanges so it's cool to be back here and we are on bikes half of the time! I am follow up training Elder Feilzer who was trained by my trainer so we are brothers in the mission but also a parent to him. He is funny. Knows a lot but also doesn't. He's good. I did probably smell the most amount of weed I have ever smelt on the mission this week so that was cool... I am also in a apartment with 4 missionaries. Hope everyone has an awesome week! -Elder Shumway (Awkward family photo) Me, Elder Butler (Trainer), Elder Prusse (Brother)....Elder Prusse is not my companion. So now there are 3 brothers..

I haven't written an email in a few weeks. I'll tell a couple stories here now! This last saturday we went to a baptism expecting a couple friends to come.... they didn't sadly. However, as we walked in I noticed a man that I recognized. He was sitting with the sister missionaries and they had invited him to come to the baptism. We pulled the sisters aside and I explained to them that I knew the guy and I had been in a lesson with him and YSA sisters a couple transfers earlier because they couldn't find another person to come to the lesson and it was late and they had weird feelings about this guy. I explained that a few days after the lesson with the sisters, the man had called us and in a VERY concerning way explained his intentions with meeting with the YSA sisters. Not good. We also pulled aside one the mission presidency, President Moffat, who thankfully was there. When we explained the situation he asked us Elders to stay and sit with him and the sisters should n...

Me and my companion have had this running joke for this transfer and last transfer where I'm Shawn and he's Gus. It gets pretty funny sometimes. A lot of stuff happened this week! Here are some highlights! -There was this man we talked to for a while outside his house and then he offered us a tour of his property and he mentioned that it is one of the oldest houses in Thousand Oaks which is really cool. He also kept telling us he was of the devil but was one of the nicest people we talked to all day. -We saw this man across a canal and the road behind it. We called out to him and he said he would talk to us next time he saw us and walked off. We kept on trekking and talking to some other people and on our way back we saw him up the road. We yelled out to him "what about this time?". He then started to walk toward and we started talking and getting to know him. He told us he was suffering from alcoholism and that he really needed God. There was another guy down the str...
