que el sigma? (salsa Chevere)

What's up guys! Elder Shumway back with another update on my life as a missionary πŸ‘. This week was pretty cool cause it got a bit colder but I think it's going back to hot next week so ig I can escape the heat even if I tried🀷‍♂️.

This week was such a blessing. On Tuesday Brother King bought us burgers and fries for lunch and then for dinner Brother Peterson took us to a steakhouse and bought us REALLY expensive prime rib😬. He then took us to cold stone and told us to get the biggest size. He's a sweet old man who's wife passed away years ago and he's just retired and lives alone. He told us he doesn't get to go out a lot because of some back injuries and that he enjoys the missionaries so much.

We also met a homeless guy named Frank. He just walked right up to us and complemented us on always working hard and talking to people. He explained that we had a light about us and he could feel it from the bench he was sitting up that was about 50 yards away. We gave him a Book of Mormon and said we'd come talk to him in the park if he was there. He called himself the "overseer of the park". He was definitely a bit rough looking but I pray he gets back on his feet.

The next day we had a whole fiasco about this guy who thought the missionaries were stalking him because they friended him on Facebook πŸ™„. He was definitely trying to sue us. Unfortunately President Rodriguez had to get involved and told us it was being handled.

On Saturday we had interviews and President is just so nice and so is his wife.

HERES THE FUNNIEST PART OF MY WEEK SO IF YOU READ ONE THING READ THIS.... we went to meet a friend Diego out in Shandon (it's basically a small town 30 minutes away with a lot of Hispanics) he's 16 and has been taking lessons for a couple months. (Him and his brothers speak English but his parents do not). After Diegos lesson we start talking. Elder Butler and Diego start talking about something but I kinda zone out. For about half the lesson I had the prompting to go and talk to Diegos mom who was in the kitchen so without putting in much thought I get up from their couch to introduce myself to diegos mom. And I DONT KNOW SPANISH. So I say mucho gusto and shake and her and introduce myself. We tried to communicate through pointing and the few Spanish words I know for a few minutes. Diego and Elder Butler come over and Diego starts translating for her and basically she's super thankful that we come over to teach her son and she wants her other sons to join in on the lessons as well. We mention that we have free English classes if she was interested in learning.... basically we end up staying for about another 30 minutes. We leave with a dozen tamales, a gallon sized back of tomatoes, a bag of peppers, and some bags of pistachios. Basically Hispanic people are the nicest people ever and will give you literally everything. She kept asking what we liked and then she just kept offering things. It's crazy to think that that wouldn't have happened if I had ignored the prompting and we had just left after the lesson.

What I learned this week was that the spirit is real and you should follow it. I get so many promptings a day as a missionary by putting myself in situations that the spirit can work with.
