MY VERY FIRST DAYLIGHT SAVINGS!
Welcome back to the exciting life of Elder Shumways mission! where everyday is an adventure for yours truly!
tuesday: exchanges with Elder Laing. He's a Spanish missionary and I still don't know that much Spanish although I am trying. We had a few lessons and i got to meet Brother Cleveland who used to be the mission president in Michigan so he loves missionaries and loves the work. We had a lesson cancel on us so we just went to visit a bunch of friends with Brother Cleveland. He had enough time to come with us to another lesson with our friend Eric. We taught about the restoration and the importance of priesthood authority. After that me and Elder Laing went tracting and found this guy who was super cool, he was retired but had worked as a military contractor. He warned us not to knock on one of the doors because it was the apartment managers. We kept talking to him and whoopty doo the apartment manager comes over to tell us to leave. Luckily our new friend walked out with us to finish the conversation. Anyways, we kept knocking and found some more people. We went to a member meal with some really energetic kids. then another lesson and some more door knocking.
wednesday: We went grocery shopping real quick because we finally received funds. We had a lesson with our friend Elisa and her son Clark. they were super cool, we drew transformers for Clark cause he's like 5 years old and you couldn't say no to him. then a lot more lessons that day with cool people.
thursday(Halloween): visited a ton of our friends and had a lesson with our friend Diego. we went to Bishop Pages for dinner where they served us pumpkin beef stew. Basically, the take a pumpkin and take the seeds out and then cook beef stew on the inside. It was pretty interesting to see them just bring out a pumpkin and set it on the dinner table. We had to be inside pretty early since it was Halloween. We had a mission wide zoom and got to go to bed a little early.
friday: We had a lesson with our friend David. Quick reminder, he's 82 and lives alone so he loves missionaries but certain things are harder for him because of his health. We then went tracking in a neighborhood which most of the time isn't fun cause we run into rude white people but this time it went pretty well and we found a couple people. We found Fabian Mandujano (the 'j' is an 'h', which can we just take a second to realize how cool that name is like just say it out loud a couple of times. Anyways after that we ate at the Lambs and sister Lamb knows how to cook and WILL FEED YOU! She just kept telling us to get more food! After that we went and visited a hispanic family (we teach their kids) and the dad gave us Dia de los Muertos bread while he dropped some life advice on us (basically what the church teaches about debt and working and gaining an educations) while he was sipping on his wine. The mom also made us hot chocolate because we couldn't have coffee. so basically i gained 7 pounds this day.
Saturday: we went tracking at this massive apartment complex. then went to a couple lessons
Sunday: David Came to CHURCH!! church was pretty cool, i got to explain to David a brief overview of the timeline of the Book of Mormon and Bible. The gave our man Fabian a church tour and talked about the Priesthood. and then had dinner with the Rarigs. and then did some weekly planning.
Today we went shopping and now we're at the church building about to play basketball.
This week I've been reading 2 Nephi and about how being
baptized just makes sense. Christ serves as the perfect example of what we should strive to be. 2 nephi 31:5 puts it perfectly where how much more of the need that we have to be baptized since we are so much more unholy. that whole chapter is about baptism and the gift of the Holy Ghost. It's interesting to think how many answers the scriptures hold but they don't hold everything and thats why we need modern day prophets. 2 Nephi 29:10 Wherefore, because that ye have a Bible ye need not suppose that it contains all my words; neither need ye suppose that I have not caused more to be written. The Lord is ALWAYS have more to tell us.

if you read my emails i love you! if you don't read my emails i still love you but only because Jesus said to love your enemies.
