And just like that.... it's 2025

Hello. Welcome back to another amazing week in Paso Robles California! This is Elder Shumway and yes, I am still praying for everyone freezing in Arizona. Just kidding that would be ridiculous!


Alright here's the run down

Tuesday- sent a lot of messages out for new years. Visited some cool records. Had a new years zoom. 

Wednesday- looked through a ton of our records and found people to stop by. 

Thursday- zoom meeting. Exchanges in spanish. Listened to a lot of Spanish and my companion translated whenever he wanted me to add something. Talked to a really cool English person though so I got to whip out my really cool personality and talk to him about the Restored Gospel!
Then put a couple friends on date to be baptized. 

Friday- stopped by some old records and members. And had a really good lesson with a couple of our friends. 

Saturday- invited a ton of people to church. Set up English class. 

Sunday- church was awesome as always. Had dinner with some awesome members. They showed us their pigs and goats.  And also got a hair cut. 

SPIRITUAL THOUGHT: Our mission finished the Book of Mormon reading on Christmas day last week. And on New Years we started again as a mission but this time it would be up to us on what we wanted to focus on/mark. 

I'm super excited about this because I've been wanting to mark in red  the warnings God gives us, the sin (or in other words, not heeding those warnings), and the consequences of that. 

Now you might be think "Elder Shumway, that's kinda depressing isn't it?". At first I thought it would be... but I'm realizing now how many CHANCES God gives us and how many WARNINGS he gives us. Especially in the beginning when He talks of the DESTRUCTION of Jerusalem. 

In 1 Nephi 1:4 we read 4 For it came to pass in the commencement of the first year of the reign of Zedekiah, king of Judah, (my father, Lehi, having dwelt at Jerusalem in all his days); and in that same year there came many prophets, prophesying unto the people that they must repent, or the great city Jerusalem must be destroyed.

God sends "many prophets" to warn us of the future. I love God for this. 

Something else I've loved on the mission is being able to MARK my scriptures. I hope everyone is able to do this. And if you haven't been able to do it for a while then now is a great time to start.

Hey yall! We had a week full of ups and downs. God is always out here looking out for us, sending us good times.  Last Monday we had the 1st counselor in the mission presidency come and sit on our district council and he took some time in the beginning to talk to us about straight up oral hygiene. He's a semi-retired dentist and brought us all toothbrushes, floss, and tongue scrapers. I had never used a tongue scraper before and I doubt that I'll ever go back. On Wednesday I had an exchange with one of my Zone Leaders and he changed my perspective on how I treat my companion and how I should go about doing work. We got to find a few people that day and extend 4 baptismal dates to our friends. I pray that they all stick to their commitments. This week we also got to stop by some members who had been going through some tough times the past few months with the Sister having to go through open heart surgery. what happened this week...

hey... everyone.. im here in california... talking about Jesus with everyone.. hope everyone had a great week! yeah but i don't remember what happened this week. i met like a ton of atheists this week... like probably more than my entire mission combined. it's interesting because you get so used to always talking about God and helping people grow their faith but your brain goes blank when you can't really do that. It reminds about how King Lamoni was taught. A little update on teaching side of things. Our friend Matthew is on date for the 16th so please prayer for him. We also have about 4 people we want to invite to be baptized this week.  oh yeah! im also in a trio right now because someone in my district had to get Emergency Transferred and our new companion is a spanish missionary so that means i got to go to spanish ward and i understood about 30% about what was happening so that was cool. today we went on a hike for our district activity and then went to c...

NEW STUFF

So I have been transferred to Conejo Canyon in the Zone of Newbury Park. I have been in this area before on exchanges so it's cool to be back here and we are on bikes half of the time! I am follow up training Elder Feilzer who was trained by my trainer so we are brothers in the mission but also a parent to him. He is funny. Knows a lot but also doesn't. He's good. I did probably smell the most amount of weed I have ever smelt on the mission this week so that was cool... I am also in a apartment with 4 missionaries.
